SATURDAY 30TH NOVEMBER 1929
FA CUP 1ST ROUND - PRIESTFIELD STADIUM
GILLINGHAM 0 MARGATE 2 (Albert Admans & Charlie Kitto)
Attendance: 4,112
A historic day for Margate FC as the club played their first ever FA Cup 1st Round match having previously never progressed past the qualifying rounds of the competition. A 4-2 win at Sheppey United in the 4th Qualifying Round saw Margate paired with Third Division Gillingham and remarkably it was the club's ninth FA Cup tie of the season. In a hard-fought game watched by just over 4,000 spectators Margate took the lead through Albert Admans after 24 minutes and Charlie Kitto added a second goal on 55 minutes. Then came the real drama as Gillingham failed to convert two penalties. Eccentric Dutch keeper Gerry Keizer saved the first spot-kick and the second hit the post so Margate progressed to the 2nd Round where they lost 6-0 at Northampton Town.
